The Apopka Blue Darters began their 2007 bowling season with tryouts ending on Friday, August 24. Due to the tryouts beginning prior to the start of school, they were extended an extra week in order to attempt to find the bowlers needed to make the teams.

The girls team returned only two starters from last year, seniors Ashley Preston and Stephanie Baer. After the two-week tryout period, the team is smaller than desired for the season. The majority of the team are beginning bowlers but are improving with practice.

Coach's comments:

The added paperwork and early tryouts before school began have hampered our opportunities to get students as involved as we have in the past. This, combined with losing key bowlers to Wekiva because of redistricting, especially hurt the girls team. Because of these factors, we are working with girls who have not bowled at the level needed for early competition.

The boys varsity team returned three starters from last year’s team, seniors Jon Ladines, James Morris, and Chris Zugelder. Senior Shaun Barnett, who alternated between varsity and junior varsity, and Junior Eric Lotti were the only other returning members of last year’s teams.

Coach's Comments:

We had several boys who showed up the first week of tryouts that have shown great improvement with practice, and had more show up after the announcement was made at school, which will help improve the team as the year progresses. Josh Ramlal will play a major role on the varsity team this year, and Brian Beauchesne will help round out the team. Other new bowlers have the potential to participate on the varsity level as well if they continue to improve.
