Week of October 2

WINTER PARK MATCH

On Tuesday, October 3, the boys began their match on a nearly even game with Apopka edging Winter Park 917 to 900. The second game allowed the Darters to build on that lead, outbowling Winter Park 925 to 824. The third and final game was again very close, with Winter Park gaining slightly with an 860 to 865 game. James Morris had the high series with a 576; Cory Mullica had the high game with a 236. The final score of the match was 2702 to 2589. The boys are 10-0 for the season.

The girls were handed their first defeat of the season, losing to a strong Winter Park team 2156 to 2518. The Lady Darters found themselves 100 pins behind after the first game. As each game progressed, the deficit continued to grow. Jenna Cardenas, with a 474 series, and CC Cardello, with a 473 series and a 178 game, led the Darters. The loss gives the Ladies a 9-1 record.

The boys JV team added to their winning season with a 3-1 victory over Winter Park. The first game of the Baker match was easily won with a 180 to 84 game. The second game was won by Winter Park 124 to 136. Apopka took the final two games for the win as the match was determined by the first team to win three games rather than total pinfall. Daniel Mimm led the Darters with 75% marks, with Matt Inman contributing marks in five of his eight frames, including three strikes. Seven bowlers had a chance to compete.

Coaches Comments:

Boy's Varsity: After the first game, substitutions were made to try to bring up the scores as we just weren’t bowling up to our potential. As the lanes began to break down, some of our boys had some problem maintaining their scores as they were not used to bowling on dry lanes. This is one area that we need to improve on, making the adjustments to different lane conditions, especially as the season gets closer to the end. We can’t afford to let down our competitive edge, especially with Districts just around the corner.

Girl's Varsity: This was not one of our better efforts. My strong bowlers just couldn’t figure out the line to bowl and really struggled with the lane conditions. Winter Park’s girls were used to the lanes and bowled some really nice games, with two girls bowling almost 600 each. We couldn’t match that intensity, and our confidence fell with each game. We will need to rebuild our confidence and skill level as we prepare for Districts and the race for Metro standing.

Boy's JV: The boys competed without Shaun (Barnett) as he bowled varsity. Their first game was strong and they handled the lanes quite well. However, they had trouble converting their spares after the first game, resulting in lower scores. Luckily, Winter Park’s boys were also struggling and we were able to come away with the victory.

BISHOP MOORE MATCH

The girls team regained their winning edge as they defeated Bishop Moore 837 to 625. The girls began the match with a nice 177 game to give them a 36 pin edge. The second game, their high game for the day, was a 216. This game included six strikes in a row. Ashley Preston led the team with 100% marks.

The boys were also successful in defeating Bishop Moore 909 to 777. The first two games were very close, with the Darters ahead by only six pins after the second game.Justin Bacon led the team with 100% marks. Cory Mullica contributed 80% marks and Chris Zugelder contributed 80%.

The boys JV team also succeeded in out-rolling Bishop Moore 823 to 631. They began the match with a nice 170 game to build a 41-pin edge. After falling back in the second and third games, they ended the series with a 175 and 195 game. Daniel Mimm and Joseph Cummins led the team with 80% marks, including five strikes each.

Coaches Comments:

Girl's Varsity: I was very pleased with the effort put out by our girls today. After their loss to Winter Park, they were ready to come back and show that they were definitely still winners and were hungry for another victory. We are still not keeping our edge in all five games in the Baker system, so we will need to continue to work on our intensity through all games in the series.

Boy's Varsity: Bishop Moore came out really strong on the first two games, but began to lose ground in the third game.“We were consistent in our scoring, but did not produce the scores that I had hoped for. We still need to develop our ability to convert our spares and maintain higher scores in the Baker games. Our ten-pin games are strong, but we seem to lose some ground when we get in the Baker matches.

Boy's JV: The boys did very well in the series. Daniel and Joseph did a good job of scoring to lead the team to the victory. They did not realize that they would have a match until Bishop Moore came, so they had to be ready to go on short notice.
